Morgan ’25 leads men’s basketball to win over No. 6 WPI

All five starters scored in double figures for the Continentals

Hamilton College's Hank Morgan '25 poured in 21 points and the Continentals posted an 86-77 non-conference win against nationally ranked No. 6 Worcester Polytechnic Institute at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon. 
 
How It Happened
  • The Continentals built a 37-31 lead at the break after hitting six 3-pointers in the first half. 
  • Hamilton scored the first nine points in the second half and led by double digits for most of the final 20 minutes. 
  • The Continentals were up by as many as 16 points midway through the half and WPI didn't get closer than seven after Hamilton's run to open the half.
  • The Engineers slashed the Continentals' lead to single digits at 57-49 with 10:36 remaining. 
  • Hamilton rattled back with a 9-3 spurt for a 14-point advantage with 6:24 left. 
  • The Engineers' Donovan Sevilla hit a 3-ball that cut Hamilton's lead to seven points with 1:12 remaining, but the Continentals claimed the game at the stripe by going 6-for-8 in the last 67 seconds.  
  • The Continentals were 18-for-26 at the line in the second half.
  • Hamilton's offense started off hot with back-to-back 3-pointers by Teja Singh '25 and Eric Anderson '23. 
  • The Engineers took the lead at 19-17 after a pair of free throws by Brett Marelli and a layup by Aidan Callahan.  
  • Hamilton quickly responded with a 13-4 spurt for a 30-23 advantage with 4:46 remaining. 
  • WPI answered with a pair of jumpers in the paint that cut its deficit to three points.
  • The Continentals closed out the half on a 7-4 run.
  • Hamilton shot 48.1 percent (26-54) from the floor, including 11 of 22 from beyond the arc, and 71.9 percent (23-32) at the line. 
  • WPI was held to a 22.2 percent (4-18) clip from 3-point range.
  • Hamilton held a 41-30 advantage on the glass.
  • The Engineers tallied 27 points off 19 turnovers by the Continentals.
Notes
  • Hamilton won its third straight and improved to 6-2 on the season.
  • WPI (5-1), which is a member of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference, is ranked sixth in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. 
  • The last time the Continentals defeated a ranked opponent was on Dec. 14, 2019, against No. 17 Nichols College. 
  • Morgan tallied his eighth consecutive contest with double-digit scoring. 
  • Singh tied a career best with 19 points and added three assists. He's fourth in the conference with 3.9 assists per game. Singh was 6 of 10 from the field including 3 of 4 from the 3-point line. 
  • Anderson was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards and a season-best 19 points. He was 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. 
  • Conner Rood '23 chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds, two steals and a team-best four assists. 
  • Patrick Mogan '23 added 10 points.
  • John Lowther paced the Engineers with 25 points and a pair of blocks.
  • Callahan was a perfect 7-for-7 at the line and registered 23 points. 
  • John Adams notched 12 points and nine boards for WPI. 
Next Game
  • Hamilton will host local opponent Utica University (5-0 overall) for another non-conference game on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
