Women's rowing wraps up fall season at Head of the Fish

Continentals' top boat finished 14th in the collegiate eights

The Hamilton College Continentals spread out seven entries over four races in the 2022 Head of the Fish Regatta on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Hamilton finished in 14th place out of 24 crews in the women's collegiate eights with a time of 12:21.79 on the 3,200-meter course. Syracuse University was the race winner in 11:36.62.

The Continentals had a pair of boats in the women's collegiate second varsity eights. Hamilton 'A' posted a time of 12:48.51 and finished ninth out of 25 crews, while Hamilton 'B' ended up in 20th place with a time of 13:42.57. Cornell University was the race winner in 11:58.07.

"The race day was surely a good test for the team where most of the rowers had the opportunity to race twice down the 3,200-meter course," Head Coach James Lister said. "I was really pleased to see the rowers able to refocus their energy towards the next race. The competition had a variety of teams racing from Division I including Colgate, Cornell and Syracuse, as well as from many Division III including Tufts, Smith, Williams, Wesleyan and Trinity."

In the women's collegiate frosh/novice eights race, the Continentals finished eighth out of 21 crews in 12:49.18. Tufts University was the race winner in 11:51.89.

Hamilton had three entries in the women's collegiate fours – led by Hamilton 'A' in 12th place out of 34 crews with a time of 13:25.81. Hamilton 'B' was 18th in 13:45.16 and Hamilton 'C' finished 34th in 16:08. One of Syracuse's entries was the race winner in 12:39.02.

"The highlights of the day came from our fours racing well finishing 12th and 18th out of 34 crews, and our frosh/novice boat finished eighth out of 21," Lister said. "The boat was 1.5 seconds from a fifth place finish."

The Continentals won't row again until the spring, either in late March or early April 2023.
