Men's basketball falls at No. 19 WPI, Regan '23 scores 10 points

Continentals held to 11 points in the first half of this non-conference matchup

Worcester Polytechnic Institute's John Lowther posted a double-double and the Engineers recorded a 65-45 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at WPI's Harrington Auditorium on Sunday afternoon.

Hamilton (9-8 overall) was coming off an emotional and thrilling last-second NESCAC win over Amherst College on Saturday. The Continentals are back on their home court against another non-conference opponent in SUNY Polytechnic on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.

The nationally ranked No. 19 Engineers, who are members of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference, improved their record to 15-1. WPI finished with a 16-7 advantage in points off turnovers.

Liam Regan '23 paced Hamilton with 10 points and Conner Rood '23 grabbed nine rebounds. Elliott Tirbaso '22 handed out three assists, Patrick Mogan '23 blocked two shots and Nick Osarenren '22 made two steals. The Continentals shot 27.5 percent from the field.

Lowther led the Engineers with 14 points and 12 boards and added two blocked shots. Colin McNamara scored 11 points and John Adams added 10. Kahleb Downing dished out four assists and Aidan Callahan was credited with three steals. WPI made all 10 of its free throw attempts.

Hamilton jumped out to a 4-0 lead on baskets by Mogan and Rood, and still led 7-4 after a 3-pointer by Regan. The Engineers responded with a 23-2 run that covered the next 15 minutes, and WPI held a commanding 29-11 advantage at the break. The Continentals committed 15 turnovers in the first half.

The Engineers' lead fluctuated between 13 and 23 points after the break as they were 6 of 9 from beyond the arc during the second half. Hamilton went 12-for-16 at the line over the last 20 minutes.
