Volleyball splits two matches on last day of Babson Invitational

Drew Stimson '25 represents Continentals on all-tournament team

The Hamilton College Continentals split two matches at the 2021 Babson College Invitational Tournament at Staake Gymnasium on Saturday. Hamilton (2-1 overall) lost in three sets against nationally ranked No. 23 Babson in the early match and cruised to a three-set victory against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in the afternoon.

Drew Stimson '25 represented the Continentals on the six-person all-tournament team. Hamilton returns to the court on Monday, Sept. 13 for a non-conference match at home against Utica College. The start time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Hamilton vs. NVU-Lyndon (0-5)

The set scores were 25-12, 25-5 and 25-8 as the Continentals dominated in their final match of the weekend. Hamilton posted a .484 hitting percentage with 33 kills and just three errors in 62 attempts. The Continentals didn't record a single attack error in the last two sets and served up 18 aces. NVU-Lyndon finished with more attack errors (15) than kills (eight).

Kate Carman '25 led Hamilton with 10 kills and Jane Fanning '22 added seven. Deirdre Corrigan '23 chipped in seven kills, six aces and six digs. Sophia Bernstein '23 served five aces and posted a team-high seven digs, and Maddy LaPoint '22 smacked three aces. Chiara Morley-McLaughlin '24 had two blocks and Jo Dine '22 handed out 16 assists.

NVU-Lyndon led three times the entire match -- at 1-0 twice and at 2-1.

Hamilton vs. Babson (6-0)

The set scores were 25-11, 25-13 and 25-23. The undefeated Beavers hit .304 as a team and averaged nearly 13 kills per set. The Continentals had more service aces (10-6) and blocks (7-6), but also ended up with 24 attack errors.

Carman hammered seven kills and Stimson put down six. Melissa Morelli '24 led the team with 18 assists, nine digs and three aces. Corrigan and LaPoint contributed three aces apiece and Morley-McLaughlin led the defense at the net with six blocks. Cece Nourie '25 came up with nine digs and Corrigan had eight.

Babson's Allie Puccio led all players with 10 kills and Tatum Stelter boasted 13 digs and three service aces.
