Hamilton College's
Britt Defeo '22 recorded his first career hat trick and
Max Scheidl '21 made a career-high 26 saves in the Continentals' 11-7 loss to the Connecticut College Camels at Conn. College's Silfen Field on Saturday afternoon.
Will Braun '22 scored the first goal at the 10:32 mark in the first quarter after the Camels goalie tried to clear the ball from their defensive end. Braun forced the turnover and ran it in. Connecticut College tied the score 2:08 later on a shot in the top-right corner.
Defeo scored his first goal with a shot into the bottom right-hand side of the goal on an assist from
Ben Gardner '21 with 6:18 left in the first quarter for a 2-1 lead. The Camels started the second quarter with two goals in a span of 1:58 and took a 3-2 advantage.
Christian Byrne '24 tied the score at 3-3 with a man-up goal right in front of the net on an assist from
Nathanial Field '24 with 10:38 left. Connecticut College scored two goals in a 19 seconds span for a two-goal edge with 9:57 remaining.
Chriss Morse '24 scored off the ensuing faceoff with an assist from
Quin Crowley '22 with 9:50 to go. Defeo scored his second goal from the top of the key and tied the score at 5-5 with 3:36 left. The Camels scored two more goals and took the lead for good before the end of the quarter as they headed into halftime up 7-5.
Defeo recorded his third goal with 9:28 remaining in the third.
Jack Jennings '23 dodged two defenders and found Defeo open on the left side and he scored on a low shot. Connecticut College scored with 8:17 left after gaining possession off a faceoff violation and took an 8-6 lead.
Scheidl made nine saves in the remaining eight minutes of the third quarter and held off the Camels with help from Hamilton's defense. Connecticut College headed into the final quarter with the two-goal difference.
Gardner scored with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter on a shot that went over the goalie's right shoulder after Morse passed to him from behind the net. Connecticut College scored three more goals and held the Continentals in check the rest of the way.
The Continentals (0-4 overall) were successful on all 24 clear attempts, picked up 24 ground balls and recorded 29 shots. Crowley won five faceoffs and picked up a team-high four ground balls.
Carter Hampson '24 caused two turnovers.
