Hamilton ’22, Seymour ’22 score three each against Wesleyan

Hamilton College's Lauren Hamilton '22, Olivia Seymour '22 and Honor Gabriel '21 scored three goals each in the Continentals' 13-12 NESCAC road loss against the nationally ranked No. 10 Wesleyan University Cardinals on Saturday.

The Continentals, who were playing their season opener, led 8-6 at the half. The Cardinals (1-1) rallied by outscoring Hamilton 7-4 in the second half.

Wesleyan outshot Hamilton 38-30 while the Continentals picked up 15 ground balls compared to the Cardinals' seven. Hamilton was successful on 17 of 20 clear attempts and won 11 draw controls.

Seymour scored the first goal at 28:47 of the first half but Wesleyan scored three minutes later to tie it. Hamilton scored at the 22:25 mark and again six minutes later.

Wesleyan tied the score and then took a one-goal lead with 8:19 left in the half before Hamilton drew the Continentals even at 4-4 one minute later. Wesleyan led 5-4 with 7:57 remaining but Gabriel and Courtney Pierre '21 scored two apiece for an 8-5 edge with 3:05 to go.

Wesleyan scored one more with 50 seconds left in the half and another one just over five minutes into the second. Seymour scored two more times in the second half and Gabriel and Eva Abel '22 also added goals. The Cardinals took the lead for good with four straight goals midway through the second half. Johanna Copeland made it 11-9 with 17:09 remaining.

Starting goaltender Megan O'Hara '21 made three saves in the first half and Maeve Luparello '23 made six in the final 30 minutes. Meghan Lane '24 was impressive in her first collegiate action with five draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Hamilton is home on Sunday, April 12 to host Wesleyan on Steuben Field.
