Hamilton College's size advantage was too much for the Hartwick College Hawks and the Continentals eventually pulled away for an 89-58 non-conference win at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Thursday night.
The Continentals won their third straight game and improved to 4-3 overall. Hamilton recorded its 13th victory in a row in the all-time series against Hartwick. The Continentals make the short trip to Utica College for another non-conference contest on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.
The Hawks -- a member of the Empire 8 Conference -- remained winless this season at 0-7. Hartwick shot just 28.3 percent from field.
Hamilton's size eventually wore down the Hawks late in the first half and into the second. The Continentals grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and finished with a 48-30 advantage on the glass. Hamilton blocked six shots, enjoyed a 24-5 advantage in second-chance points and racked up 40 points in the paint.
Eric Anderson '22 led the Continentals with 17 points -- all in the first half. Anderson leads the team with 16.1 points per game.Â
Nick Osarenren '22 chipped in 14 points and nine boards,
Teja Singh '25 contributed 10 points and three assists, and
Christian McDaniel '24 scored a season-high 10 points off the bench. Hamilton received 44 points from its reserves. The Continentals made all 13 of their free throw attempts.
Hartwick's Anthony Girard led all players with 19 points and handed out three assists. Cooper Francis dropped in 11 points, Nick Eiler pulled down six rebounds and Sammuel Prosper made three steals.
Neither team led by more than five points until the final three minutes of the first half. Osarenren found
Graham Robinson '25 for a 3-pointer in the left corner and Hamilton took the lead for good at 29-26 with 5:37 left in the half. After a steal by
Hank Morgan '25, Osarenren drove into the lane, pulled up and hit a 10-foot jumper for a 31-26 edge about 40 seconds later.
A drive from the right baseline and reverse layup by
Liam Regan '23 gave the Continentals their first double-digit lead at 42-32 with 49 seconds remaining. Two free throws by Girard with 1.2 seconds to go pulled the Hawks within eight at 44-36.
Singh scored the first eight points of the second half and Hamilton led by double digits the rest of the way. A 3-pointer by Regan with 15:20 left put the Continentals up by 20 for the first time at 62-40. Hamilton took its largest lead of 32 points at 89-57 with 1:02 remaining when
William Gordon '23 banked in a 3-pointer from the left wing.
