The Hamilton College Continentals opened the 2021-22 season with a tri-meet with NESCAC foes Trinity College and Colby College at the Wesleyan University Natatorium on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity defeated Hamilton 167-131 and the Continentals fell to Colby, 194.5-105.5. Hamilton returns to Wesleyan on Saturday, Dec. 4 for the 2021 Division III Connecticut Cup Championships.
Sam Karlson '23 led the Continentals with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.60 seconds. Karlson added a runner-up finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.84 seconds, which was just two one-hundredths behind the event winner.
Emma Nordquist '25 took second place in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:17.20 and was third in the 500 free in 5:27.37.
Caroline Shen '24 landed in third place in the 50 backstroke (28.67 seconds) and the 100 back (1:02.04).
Madison Goodman-Leong '25 added a pair of third place performances in the 100 butterfly (1:00.74) and the 200 individual medley (2:17.42).
Irene Keh '24 finished in the top five in three events. Keh was fourth in the 50 breaststroke (32.92 seconds), fourth in the 100 breast (1:11.42) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:19.41).
Meredith Gioia '22 ended up third in the 50 fly (27.28 seconds).
Marissa Duffy '25 was fifth in the 200 free (2:03.46),
Lucy Elliott '23 also finished fifth in the 100 back (1:02.76), and
Jillian Rhodes '22 touched the wall in fifth place in the 100 breast (1:12.11).
In diving
Maggie Nye '24 was fifth on the 1-meter springboard with 141.10 points, and
Kathleen Deedy '24 was fourth on the 3-meter with 119.70 points.
