Hamilton College's
Sidney Molnar '22 recorded a career-high 36 saves and the Continentals shut out the nationally ranked No. 8 Amherst College Mammoths 2-0 in a NESCAC game Sunday afternoon at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink.
The Continentals (2-0-0, 2-0 NESCAC) also defeated Amherst 3-1 on Saturday night. The Mammoths (0-2-0, 0-2) out-shot Hamilton 36-23 including 13-9 in the third period.
After a scoreless first period the Continentals came out more assertive in the second and put one on the board just 1:21 into the period.
Maddie Hong '23 cleared the puck from the Mammoths zone and
Nancy Loh '23 picked it up as she came off the bench. Loh skated right past an Amherst defender and put a shot into the bottom-right corner.
Hamilton capitalized on an Amherst penalty for interference at 14:28 of the second. Hong picked up the puck behind the net and passed it to Loh who fed it to
Abby Kuhns '23 at the point. Kuhns shot through a screen and
Claire McGennis '24 deflected it in and recorded her first collegiate goal with 3:49 left in the period.
Like déjà vu, the Mammoths pulled their goaltender after Hamilton took a penalty late in the third period, but the Continentals' defense once again held them at bay for the two-goal win.
Hamilton is home again on Tuesday, Nov. 23 for a non-conference game against Morrisville State at 1 p.m.
