The nationally ranked No. 24 Hamilton College Continentals remained unbeaten after defeating the No. 13 Tufts University Jumbos 1-0 in a NESCAC match at Tufts' Bello Field on Sunday afternoon.
This is the Continentals' third win this season against a nationally ranked team, their fourth straight shutout and third victory in a row by a 1-0 score. Tufts out-shot Hamilton 19-6 and had an 8-1 edge on corner kicks but could not capitalize on any of them.
Ashlyn Gaulin '23 scored for Hamilton (7-0-2, 5-0-2 NESCAC) in the 42
nd minute off a corner kick by
Olivia Zubarik '25. The kick sailed into the middle of the box in front of the goal and Gaulin headed it into the back of the net for her second goal in three matches.
Caity Smith '23 recorded four saves for Hamilton and the Jumbos' Kaelin Logue made one. The Continentals had another chance to score in the 54th minute when
Allie Reed '23 shot the ball just over the crossbar from 25 yards out.
In the first half Tufts (5-3-0, 3-2) had two goals called back due to offside calls in the 13
th and 24
th minutes and hit the crossbar in the 39
th minute.
Tufts had a few opportunities to tie the score in the second half including a corner kick in the 69
th minute that was headed just a little too high over the net. In the 73
rd minute Smith made a diving save to the bottom-right corner off a free kick taken from 40 yards. The Jumbos hit the crossbar in the 78
th minute, and with 90 seconds left they shot high after dribbling downfield and through Hamilton defenders.
The Continentals will host NESCAC foe Bowdoin College on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. on Love Field. Hamilton will honor its five seniors before the match.
