Hamilton College's
Kate Carman '24 posted a team high 12.5 points in the Continentals' 3-0 NESCAC loss to the Tufts University Jumbos on Friday night inside Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.
The Continentals (5-3, 1-2 NESCAC) hammered 35 kills but also had 22 attack errors. Hamilton is back home on Saturday, Oct. 2 to host NESCAC foe Bowdoin College at noon and then Ithaca College at 4 p.m. for a non-conference match.
The Jumbos (8-3. 3-1 NESCAC), who received votes in this week's Division III coaches poll and were ranked last week, had 39 kills with only nine errors. Tufts finished with a hitting percentage of .300.
Carman had 12 kills,
Chiara Morley-McLaughlin '24 added six kills and
Drew Stimson '25 chipped in five kills with three blocks.
Melissa Morelli '24 handed out 30 assists,
Summer McClintic '24 was credited with 14 digs and
Deirdre Corrigan '23 had 11.
Maddy LaPoint '22 and
Jo Dine '22 served one ace apiece.
The set scores were 25-18, 25-16 and 25-19. In the first set Hamilton came back from a 15-7 deficit with a five-point rally during which Carman recorded three kills. The Continentals stayed within five points of the lead until Tufts finished with a four-point run.
The Continentals tied the second set four times and took the lead five times before the Jumbos went on a five-point spree for a 17-11 advantage. They led by at least five points the rest of the set..
Hamilton played the third set tough and came back from a 14-6 deficit as the Continentals trimmed Tufts' lead to four points three times down the stretch, including 23-19. The Jumbos were able to complete the sweep after two Hamilton attack errors.
