Cochrane '20 picks up two assists in men's hockey NESCAC semifinal loss

Box Score

Trinity College's Liam Feeney scored two goals and the Bantams edged the Hamilton College Continentals 3-2 in a 2020 NESCAC Men's Ice Hockey Championship semifinal at Williams College's Lansing Chapman Rink on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton (12-10-4 overall) was the third seed for the championship after the Continentals finished in third place in the conference standings. Stephen Cochrane '20 posted two assists in his last game at Hamilton and the defenseman ended up with eight this season. Sean Storr '22 made 20 saves and finished the season with a 1.74 goals against average and .931 save percentage in 11 starts in goal. Storr leads the NESCAC in goals against average and is fourth in save percentage.

Second-seeded and nationally ranked No. 8 Trinity (19-6-1) scored the first goal and never trailed. Eric Benshadle notched a goal and added an assist and Barclay Gammill chipped in three helpers. Jonah Capriotti turned away 18 shots.

Feeney scored the game-winner on a wrist shot from the slot with just 14 seconds left in the third period. The Continentals called a timeout and pulled Storr for the extra skater, but the Bantams won the faceoff and Hamilton didn't get a shot off in the final seconds.

Feeney gave Trinity a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal with 7:45 remaining in the second period. The Continentals tied the score with 2:22 to go in the period. Cade Groton '23 won an offensive zone faceoff back to Sean Allen '21 and he passed to Cochrane for a wrist shot from above the right faceoff circle. Fred Allaire '23 redirected the shot from near the right post for his fifth goal. Allen topped the team with 12 helpers.

The Bantams went back in front on a goal by Benshadle with 1:20 left in the second. Trinity held on to its 2-1 edge until 7:40 remained in the third period. Cochrane's wrist shot from above the right faceoff circle was knocked down in front by teammate Justin Felhaber '21 and the puck sat for a moment just outside the crease. Jordi Jefferson '22 won the battle and lifted a shot into the top-right corner of the net from point-blank range. Jefferson led Hamilton with 12 goals and 19 points this season. Felhaber ended 2019-20 with seven assists.
