Men's hockey upsets No. 12 Williams 3-2

Box Score

Hamilton College's Nick Ursitti '20 scored twice in the Continentals' 3-2 upset over the nationally ranked No. 12 Williams College Ephs in NESCAC action on Friday night inside Williams' Lansing Chapman Rink.

For the second time this season the Continentals (11-8-4, 10-5-2 NESCAC) upended the Ephs as Hamilton blanked Williams 1-0 at home on Dec. 6 when the Ephs were ranked 13th. Head Coach Rob Haberbusch recorded the 100th victory of his career -- all with the Continentals. He led Hamilton to a team-record 20 wins and their first NCAA championship appearance in 2016-17.

Hamilton's first goal came 3:58 into the first period when Jon Beniers '21 scored off the rebound off a shot by Teddy Simson '21 with the pass from Justin Felhaber '21.

The Continentals made it 2-0 at the 10:14 mark of the period when Sean Allen '21 fed the puck to Jordi Jefferson '20 who sent a cross-ice pass to Ursitti in front of the net.

Williams (15-7-1, 12-5-0) cut its deficit in half 3:32 into the second. Daniel Woolfenden passed the puck from the Ephs' zone across the center of the ice to Mac Carso who sniped a shot top shelf.

The Continentals made it 3-1 on a power-play goal 83 seconds later when Allen sent a pass to Stephen Cochrane '20 who shot it from the point and Ursitti poked it in from in front of the net. Ursitti is tied for the team lead with 10 goals.

The Ephs scored with 6:44 left in the third off a bad bounce from behind the net and Wyatt Glover snuck it in. Williams couldn't net the equalizer.

Sean Storr '22 made 26 saves for Hamilton while Williams' Cosimo Lazzarino recorded 26 as well. Storr has a 1.67 goals against average and .938 save percentage in six conference starts.

Hamilton will take on Middlebury College in Vermont on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. for the Continentals' last game of the regular season. The Continentals are currently third in the NESCAC standings while the Panthers are in a three-way tie for fourth place.
