Women's basketball picks up NESCAC road win over Connecticut College

The Hamilton College Continentals recorded their fifth NESCAC win of the season with a 61-55 victory over the Connecticut College Camels on Friday night inside Luce Field House.

The Continentals (15-8, 5-4 NESCAC) have their most NESCAC wins in a season since joining the conference for basketball in 2011-12. Hamilton outshot the Camels 70.6 percent to 64.3 percent on free throws and 31.3 percent to 21.1 percent on 3-pointers.

Kelcie Zarle '22 led the Continentals with 12 points while Liz Arnold '22 and Scout Lansing '21 each had nine points. Arnold and Carly O'Hern '20 picked up eight rebounds apiece.

Connecticut College (7-16, 2-7) outscored Hamilton 14-10 in the first quarter and had a 5-0 lead to start. Zarle made a layup and the Camels answered with back-to-back layups to make it 9-2. With two minutes left Claire Sehring '22 put in three free throws and Mackenzie Aldridge '20 made a layup to come within three points.

Hamilton came back in the second quarter and outscored Connecticut College 17-12. Arnold put in a layup with 6:30 left in the half, Kayla Glemaud '21 followed with a jumper, and O'Hern made a jumper and 3-pointer for a 24-20 lead.

There were three ties and four lead changes in the third quarter before Hamilton took and kept the lead with a six-point run. Zarle drained a 3-pointer with 3:07 left, Sehring followed with a free throw and Zarle made a layup. Connecticut College put in a layup and Marie Steiner '20 made a layup and a 3-pointer for a 47-39 Hamilton edge heading into the final quarter.

The Camels outscored the Continentals 16-14 in the fourth quarter and a seven-point run pulled them within two points of the lead. Lansing finished the game with three free throws to give Hamilton the six-point victory.

The Continentals, who currently sit in fifth place in the conference standings, travel to Hartford, Conn., on Saturday for their final regular season NESCAC game against Trinity College at 3 p.m. The Bantams are in sixth place.
