Men's hockey nets five goals in NESCAC win over Tufts

Box Score

Five different Hamilton College Continentals scored in their 5-2 NESCAC win over the Tufts University Jumbos on Friday night inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink.

The Continentals (10-7-4, 9-4-2 NESCAC) won the season series against the Jumbos (7-13-1, 5-9-1) as they defeated them 4-1 in Massachusetts back on Jan. 17. Hamilton is 7-0-2 in its last nine conference games and the Continentals picked up their fifth consecutive win as they sit in third place in the NESCAC standings.

After a scoreless first period, Nick Rutigliano '22 blasted the puck from the blue line into the net for a power-play goal 1:45 into the second. Bennett Morrison '20 had a shot go wide of the net and it was picked up by Nick Ursitti '20 who played it to Rutigliano.

Seventeen seconds later Hamilton scored another power-play goal to make it 2-0. Jordi Jefferson '22 passed the puck to Fred Allaire '23 from his knees up the center and found Cameron Radziwon '20 who tipped it in.

Tufts made it 2-1 at the 9:30 mark in the second period with a power-play goal. Mason Babbidge scored off two quick passes from Ross Delabruere and Cooper Stahl.

The Jumbos tied the score with 7:23 left in the second on another power-play goal. Angus Scott passed the puck to Justin Brandt who took a shot and Cory Gottfried was able to poke it in off the rebound.

The game-winning goal came 1:24 into the third period. Sean Allen '21 took the puck from behind Hamilton's net and found Jefferson up the center. Jefferson dropped the puck back to Ursitti and he fed it back to Jefferson in front of the net for the Continentals' third power-play goal of the night.

Hamilton held its 3-2 edge until the Continentals scored two empty-net goals in the last minute. Allaire put one in with 47 seconds remaining and Jon Beniers '21 added another with two seconds left with help from Teddy Simson '21.

Sean Storr '22 made 23 saves for Hamilton while the Jumbos' Josh Sarlo recorded 28. Storr has a 1.60 goals against average and .940 save percentage in five conference starts.

Hamilton is back home on Saturday, Feb. 15 to host NESCAC foe Connecticut College at 3 p.m. Hamilton will honor their nine seniors during a ceremony prior to the start of the game.
