Box Score Six Utica College players scored in double figures and the Pioneers held on for a 104-97 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday afternoon.
The nationally ranked No. 22 Continentals (9-2 overall) were playing for the first time in nearly three weeks. Hamilton blew out then-No. 17 Nichols College 92-67 back on Dec. 14. The Continentals were whistled for 35 fouls.
Utica (9-2) extended its win streak to five games and scored more than 100 points for the third time in the last four contests. The Pioneers went 48-for-59 (81.4 percent) at the free-throw line.
Kena Gilmour '20 paced Hamilton with a season-high 33 points and moved into seventh place on the team's all-time list with 1,637. Gilmour is second in the NESCAC in scoring with 23.1 points per game.
Mark Lutz '20 drained three 3-pointers and scored 14 points for the Continentals before he fouled out. Vince Conn '21 led Hamilton's bench with 12 points, Sayo Denloye '20 chipped in nine in his first game back from injury this season, and Nick Osarenren '22 was credited with four steals.
Darius Hopkins went 10-for-14 at the free-throw line and topped Utica with 18 points. Brett Talbert and Hunter Remley dropped in 17 apiece, Thomas Morreale made all eight of his free throws and ended up with 15 points, and both Kimedrick Murphy and Justice Brantley scored 11.
The Pioneers led 47-38 at the break and were up by double digits for most of the second half. Hamilton closed to within three points in the final minutes but Utica pulled away with clutch shooting down the stretch.
The Continentals are at home again on Monday, Jan. 6 when they take on SUNY Geneseo in a non-conference game at 1:30 p.m.
