Box Score Bates College's Kody Greenhalgh poured in 26 points and the Bobcats recorded a 98-81 NESCAC win over the Hamilton College Continentals at Bates' Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton (11-5, 1-3 NESCAC), which received votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, posted 46 bench points. The Continentals are back on the road at Elmira College in non-conference action on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m.
The Bobcats (9-5, 2-1) enjoyed a 50-40 advantage on the glass and scored 19 second-chance points to Hamilton's four. Bates racked up 48 points in the paint.
Kena Gilmour '20 drained four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and three assists for the Continentals. Eric Anderson '22 registered 13 points and six rebounds off the bench. Nick Osarenren '22 nailed three shots from beyond the arc and tied a career high with 11 points. Spencer Kendall '21 added six boards and three assists.
Tom Coyne knocked down four 3-pointers and ended up with 21 points in 23 minutes off the bench for the Bobcats. Greenhalgh also made four shots from long range. Omar Sarr had a big game in the post with 15 points, 18 rebounds and six blocked shots. Sarr grabbed eight offensive boards. Jeff Spellman dropped in 19 points and Nick Gilpin contributed 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
Hamilton jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a Kendall jumper, a 3-pointer by Mark Lutz '20 and two free throws by Vince Conn '21. Neither team led by more than five points in the first 12 minutes. Gilmour passed to Osarenren for a 3-pointer and the Continentals' last lead at 25-22 with 9:50 left.
Bates scored the next nine points and led the rest of the way. The Bobcats took their first double-digit advantage at 46-34 with 3:33 remaining and went into the break with a 52-40 lead. Anderson led Hamilton with 11 points in the first half.
The Continentals pulled within four points at 76-72 on a trifecta by Osarenren with 9:03 to go, but Bates pulled away again with a 9-2 run. Hamilton didn't get closer than nine points in the last six minutes. Gilmour scored 12 points in the second half.
