Box Score Hamilton College's Cat Gambino '21 scored two goals and the Continentals posted a convincing 5-1 NESCAC victory over the Colby College Mules at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday.
Hamilton (4-2-1, 2-2-1 NESCAC) took the lead 29:28 into the first half. Rylie Mutton '23 intercepted a pass inside the center circle, raced past four defenders into the right side of the box and blasted a shot into the opposite-upper corner. The goal was the first of Mutton's collegiate career.
The Continentals made it a two-goal lead in the 44th minute as they charged up the right sideline and fed the ball to Mackenzie Christensen '22. Christensen sent a cross from the top-right corner of the penalty box to the backside of the goal where Ashlyn Gaulin '23 snuck behind the defender and redirected the ball off the near-side post and into the nylon 1:50 before the break.
Cat Gambino '21 extended the lead to 3-0 in the 47th minute. Kristin Hughes '20 denied the Colby attack at midfield and Hamilton quickly transitioned up the field as Bella Roselli '22 fed the ball ahead to Gambino and the junior forward outraced the defenders for a breakaway goal.
The Continentals put the game out of reach with back-to-back goals by Caroline Dawson '23 at 51:56 and Gambino at 64:39.
Charlotte White scored the lone goal for Colby (2-3-2, 1-3-2) off a feed from Hallie Schwartzman in the 82nd minute to conclude the scoring.
Hamilton's Rachel Pike '21 had four saves before she was relieved by Julia Rowland '21 (1 save) with 8:52 left. Dani Lonati (3 saves) and Shannon Gray (5 saves) split the goalkeeping duties for the Mules.
The Continentals host Morrisville State on Tuesday, Oct. 1 for a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
