Box Score Hamilton College posted a .453 hitting percentage and the Continentals cruised to a non-conference victory against the Cazenovia College Wildcats in three sets at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday night.
The Continentals (6-3 overall) extended their win streak to four matches in their 2019 home opener. The set scores were 25-5, 25-11 and 25-13. Hamilton has swept its last three opponents. The Continentals host Trinity College (4-4, 0-1 NESCAC) in their first NESCAC match this season on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. The Bantams lost in three sets at Williams College tonight.
Deirdre Corrigan '23 paced Hamilton with 12 kills and helped the defense with nine digs. Giuliana Rankin '20 smashed 10 kills and Kendall Boxe '22 tied a career high with eight. Dorothy Poucher '21 hammered a season-high 10 kills with no errors in 16 attempts for a .625 hitting percentage and added two solo blocks. Jo Dine '22 handed out a career-best 41 assists and Sophia Bernstein '23 served two aces. Nikki Matsuoka '21 led all players with 17 digs and is third in the conference with 153 total digs and 5.07 per set.
Mallory Clark topped Cazenovia (1-9) with six kills. Kaylin Van Auken handed out 12 assists and Mary MacHugh contributed nine digs.
Matsuoka served the last 13 points of the first set and the Continentals were never really in danger of dropping a set the rest of the evening. The Wildcats were within 11-7 in the second set but Hamilton ran off six straight points that included three kills by Rankin. The Continentals opened the third set with a 5-0 run and never trailed. Matsuoka served the last seven points that included three kills by Poucher. Dine closed out the match with a kill on a pass from Matsuoka.
