Box Score Hamilton College's Hyla Mosher '23 recorded two goals and one assist and the Continentals defeated the Utica College Pioneers 4-1 in a non-conference game at Utica's Gaetano Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Continentals (3-2-0 overall) dominated with a 42-4 shot advantage, and Mosher boasted the first multi-goal match of her young collegiate career. Rachel Pike '21 made two stops for Hamilton while Utica's Allison Wagner collected a career-high 20 saves. After winning their first five games of the season, the Pioneers (5-2-0) have lost two straight.
Alex Fontana '20 opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Kayleigh Harris '20 crossed the ball from the left corner to Mosher waiting at the hashmark. Mosher dropped the ball back to Fontana at the top of the box for a one-timer underneath the crossbar at 9:36.
Mosher made it a two-goal lead just past the 22-minute mark. Rylie Mutton '23 controlled the ball at the top of the penalty box and passed to Kristin Hughes '20 in the right corner. Hughes blasted a cross to Mosher who redirected the ball past Wagner. Hughes is tied for sixth in all of Division III with an average of one assist per game, and she leads the NESCAC with five helpers.
Just 38 seconds later, Utica's Mikayla Blumenstock cut the Pioneers' deficit in half. Eliza Ericson lofted the ball over Hamilton's defensive line to a streaking Blumenstock inside the box, and the senior forward tucked the ball past the outstretched arms of Pike and into the lower-left corner of the net.
Hamilton held a 2-1 lead at the break before Mosher netted her second of the game 5:22 into the second half. Caroline Dawson '23 made it 4-1 in the 60th minute with her second tally of the season. Mosher is in a three-way tie atop the NESCAC leaderboard with five goals and she's fourth with 11 points.
The Continentals return to NESCAC play on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they travel to nationally ranked No. 2/3 Middlebury College for an 11 a.m. contest.
