Men's soccer plays nationally ranked Ithaca tough in loss

Box Score

Ithaca College's Zack Lichtman scored in the ninth minute and the Bombers posted a 1-0 non-conference victory against the Hamilton College Continentals at Ithaca's Carp Wood Field on Tuesday.

Hamilton (1-2-0 overall) held a 7-2 shot advantage in the second half and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks for the entire match. Thomas Benson '22 made two saves for the Continentals.

Hamilton's only shot on goal came in the 52nd minute when Aidan Wood '20 was stopped by Max Lichtenstein. The Continentals nearly tied the score in the 83rd minute on a header by Hagop Kouchakdjian '21 hit the crossbar. Hamilton had two more attempts in the final minutes, but both of Wood's shots missed the mark.

Thomas Pierce was credited with the assist on Lichtman's goal for the Bombers (4-1-0) -- ranked 17th by D3soccer.com and 21st by the United Soccer Coaches. Things got a little testy in the second half as Ithaca players were issued four yellow cards.

Hamilton returns home to face Amherst College in NESCAC action on Saturday, Sept. 14. The Mammoths are ranked in the top 10 in both Division III polls.
