Men's hockey upends No. 14 Williams; Jefferson '22 scores twice

Box Score

Hamilton College's Jordi Jefferson '22 scored the eventual game-winning goal with 14 seconds left in the second period and the Continentals went on to post a 4-2 NESCAC victory over the nationally ranked No. 14 Williams College Ephs on Saturday afternoon at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink.

Hamilton (12-9-3 overall) finishes the regular season with a 10-5-3 NESCAC record and earned the fourth seed for the 2019 NESCAC Men's Hockey Championship. The Continentals will host the fifth-seeded Ephs (14-8-2, 10-6-2) again in a quarterfinal on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Williams' Keanu Hilaire was whistled for interference and a game misconduct at 7:52 of the first period to give Hamilton a 5-on-4 advantage for five minutes, but it was the Ephs who capitalized first with a short-handed goal at 8:56. Wyatt Glover collected a loose puck in the Ephs' zone, skated the length of the ice and wristed a shot over the right shoulder of Sean Storr '22.

Still on the extra-man opportunity, Hamilton's Bennett Morrison '20 tied the score at 11:21 when he netted his third goal of the season. Williams goaltender Michael Pinios (21 saves) left the crease to clear the puck away but it went right to Morrison along the left-side boards and he fired a shot into the open net.

Hamilton extended its lead to 3-1 after two periods after goals by Andrew Court '22 and Jefferson. Court grabbed a rebound off a shot by Cameron Radziwon '20 and backhanded the puck inside the right post at 5:34 for his second goal. Jefferson followed with 14 seconds left when Blayne Oliver '20 took a shot from the left faceoff dot and Jefferson flipped the puck end-over-end over Pinios' head.

Storr made 11 of his 34 saves in the second period to keep the Ephs at one goal. The victory was the first of Storr's career with the Continentals as well as his first conference start between the pipes.

Williams cut its deficit to one at 3-2 with 4:25 left in the third period when Nick Van Belle scored a power-play goal, but Jefferson secured the victory on his empty-net goal with six seconds left. Jefferson has five goals and nine points in 16 games.
