Men's hockey drops last game of fall semester

Middlebury College's Brian Ketchabaw made 24 saves and the Panthers shut out the Hamilton College Continentals 3-0 in a NESCAC game played at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Saturday afternoon.

The Continentals (3-5-0, 2-3 NESCAC) had played five straight one-goal games prior to Saturday, including a 1-0 victory against nationally ranked No. 13 Williams College on Friday night. Sean Storr '22 started in goal and made eight saves before he left the ice with an apparent injury early in the second period. Anthony Tirabassi '20, who earned the shutout against Williams, replaced Storr and turned away 16 shots in 31-plus minutes.

Middlebury (6-2-0, 5-1) played its last six games away from home and went 5-1 during that stretch including a 3-2 victory at Amherst College on Friday. The Panthers received votes in this week's USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll and are tied for second in the NESCAC standings.

Middlebury scored one goal in each period. Billy Dobensky scored his second goal of the season on a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle on the Panthers' lone power play of the day with 3:30 left in the first period. Alex Heinritz tallied his first this season on a wrist shot from the high slot through traffic while the teams skated 4-on-4 with 3:09 remaining in the second period.

Tirabassi was called to the bench for an extra skater with 4:29 left in the third period. Mitchell Allen flipped in a backhander from below the left faceoff circle into the empty net with 34.4 seconds to go. Allen also had an assist and is tied for the team lead with seven points.

Cade Groton '23 won 10 of 15 faceoffs for Hamilton, which finished 0-for-4 on the power play. The Continentals are off until Friday, Jan. 3 when they host Skidmore College at 7 p.m. for their annual game at the historic Clinton Arena.
