Women's hockey tames the Mustangs 6-0 in 2019-20 home opener

Box Score

Four Continentals tallied multiple points and Hamilton College defeated the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs 6-0 in the Continentals' first home game of the 2019-20 season at Russell Sage Rink on Tuesday afternoon.

Abby Kuhns '23 led the Hamilton (2-3-0 overall) offense with a season-best four points. Michaela Giuttari '20 and Missy Segall '21 had three points apiece and both Kate Piacenza '21 and Nancy Loh '22 contributed two. Gab Venne '22 (4 saves) started in goal and Sidney Molnar '22 (9 saves) took the third period to share the shutout.

Segall started the scoring frenzy in a three-goal first period. The junior center won the faceoff to the right of Adriana Harman (34 saves), dropping the puck back to Kuhns. Kuhns passed across the blue line to Giuttari who quickly found Segall in the slot for a wrist shot into the upper-left corner at 10:25.

Kuhns made it a 2-0 lead with her first collegiate goal at 13:06. The Continentals were on the power play when Jess Haviland '21 passed the puck out of the corner to the point, Giuttari passed across to Kuhns and Kuhns fired a shot through traffic and into the nylon.

With help from Kuhns and Segall, Piacenza concluded the scoring in the opening period. Segall fired a close-range shot that Harman denied and the rebound bounced out to the point where Kuhns fired another shot, and Piacenza redirected it into the opposite corner with 44 seconds left for her 15th career goal.

Loh notched her first of the game at 11:37 in the second period with Kuhns and Giuttari picking up the assists, and Hyla Mosher '23 recorded her first collegiate goal just 23 seconds later. Tracey Stafford '23 dug the puck out of a scrum at Morrisville's blue line and dished the puck to Allie Curry '23 in the right corner. Curry fired a pass to the front of the net where Mosher one-timed a shot inside the back post.

Loh's second goal came with 58.7 seconds left in the third period. Loh broke the puck out of Hamilton's zone and passed ahead to Piacenza. Piacenza skated the puck into the offensive zone, found Segall in the high slot for a shot and Loh tipped the puck into the net for the 15th goal of her career.

The Continentals and Mustangs (4-4-1) face off again on Friday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. in Morrisville, N.Y.
