Ursitti '20 posts goal, assist in men's hockey setback

Box Score

SUNY Canton's Jesse Farabee and Matthew Headland scored two goals apiece and the Kangaroos held on for a 4-3 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Canton's Roos House on Tuesday.

Hamilton (2-3-0 overall) fell behind 4-0 late in the second period, but the Continentals nearly came all the way back to tie the Roos. Hamilton held a 13-7 shot advantage in the third period. Nick Ursitti '20 scored a goal and added an assist. Fred Allaire '23 won 12 of 19 faceoffs and Anthony Tirabassi '20 made 25 saves in 56-plus minutes in net.

Canton (3-3-1) scored three goals in the first period and added a power-play tally late in the second. Kyler Matthews was credited with a pair of assists and Austin Washkurak turned away 25 shots. The Roos killed all four of the Continentals' power plays.

Ursitti started Hamilton's rally on an unassisted goal with 1:44 left in the second period. He has a team-high three goals and is tied for the team lead with four points.

Sterling Bray '20 pulled the Continentals within two goals on his second this season and the 11th of his Hamilton career just 1:57 into the third period. Bray is tied with Ursitti with four points. Bennett Morrison '20 and Nick Rutigliano '22 had the assists. Morrison tops the Continentals with four helpers. Another one of Bray's shots hit the post early in the second period during a power play.

Jordi Jefferson '22 cut Hamilton's deficit to one on his second goal in as many games. Head Coach Rob Haberbusch pulled Tirabassi for the extra skater with 4:06 remaining and that paid off a couple minutes later. Nick Hawkins '23 won the puck in a five-man scrum at the far boards to Ursitti and he found Jefferson at the right circle. Jefferson's slap shot past Washkurak made it 4-3 with 1:53 to go. Following a faceoff win, the Continentals pulled Tirabassi once again but Washkurak stopped one last shot.

Headland scored 1:30 into the first period and with 1:04 to go in the period. Farabee's first goal came at 10:02 of the opening period and his power-play score made it 4-0 with 3:29 left in the second.

The two teams meet again on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Continentals' Russell Sage Rink at 7 p.m.
