Hamilton College's Lizzie Clarke '20 scored twice in the final four minutes and lifted the Continentals to a 2-1 victory over the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a 2019 NESCAC Field Hockey Championship quarterfinal at Bowdoin's Ryan Field on Saturday afternoon.

Facing a one-goal deficit with 3:52 remaining in the fourth quarter, Clarke buried a penalty stroke past Maddie Ferrucci (1 save) to knot the score.

Clarke struck again a little more than two minutes later with the game winner. Maura Holden '23 inserted a penalty corner to Clarke who blasted a shot from the top of the arc and the ball flipped off a stick and into the cage. The two goals were Clarke's fourth and fifth of the season and increased her career total to 16.

Hamilton (9-7, 4-6 NESCAC) entered the championship on a four-game win streak and was the seventh seed. The Continentals advance to the semifinals for the second time in program history and will face the top-seeded and defending NESCAC champion Middlebury College Panthers on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in Middlebury, Vt.

Nationally ranked No. 4 Bowdoin (14-2 overall) was the second seed in the championship after finishing the regular season with a 9-1 conference record.

The game remained scoreless for over 40 minutes before Faith Jennings gave the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead with 4:32 left in the third quarter. Manveer Sandhu worked the ball down the right side towards the corner and sent a long cross to the front of the cage where Jennings tipped the ball past Maggie Reville '22 (7 saves).

Both teams finished with 11 shots and Hamilton held a 7-5 edge in penalty corners.
