Box Score Bowdoin College's Caroline Flaharty posted 12 kills and three service aces and the Polar Bears defeated the Hamilton College Continentals in three sets in NESCAC action at Bowdoin's Morrell Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton (7-6, 1-3) dropped its third straight match as the set scores were 25-18, 25-20 and 25-15. The Continentals return home to Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday, Oct. 11 to face Bates College for another NESCAC match at 7 p.m.
Deirdre Corrigan '23 paced Hamilton with eight kills and added 11 digs. Giuliana Rankin '20 smashed six kills and Jo Dine '22 passed out 13 assists. Dorothy Poucher '21 served three aces and helped lead the defense with four blocks. Nikki Matsuoka '21 was credited with 16 digs and Kendall Searcy '20 came up with 13.
Cori Gray boasted seven kills and six blocks for the Polar Bears. Ella Haugen and Kate Kiser handed out 19 and 17 assists, respectively, and Emily King led all players with 24 digs.
The first set featured nine early ties before the Polar Bears (8-6, 3-2) went on a four-point run and took a 15-11 advantage. The Continentals didn't get closer than two points the rest of the way, and Bowdoin clinched the set on a Hamilton error.
The second set was even closer than the first with nine ties and five lead changes and neither team led by more than three points until the end. The Continentals tied the score at 20-20 on a service ace by Dine, but Bowdoin ended the set by scoring the next five points.
The Polar Bears dominated the third set after Hamilton took a 1-0 lead when Rankin smacked a kill on the first serve. Bowdoin opened up a 10-3 cushion before the Continentals called a timeout. Hamilton didn't get closer than six points down the stretch as the Polar Bears quickly ended the match.
