Box Score Hamilton College's Cat Gambino '21 scored two goals in the first half and the Continentals cruised to a 4-0 NESCAC victory against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears at Bowdoin's Pickard Field on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton (6-2-1, 3-2-1 NESCAC) -- ranked eighth in the New England Region by the United Soccer Coaches -- is unbeaten in its last five games by outscoring its opponents 21-3. Gambino has racked up six goals and one assist in the last three games after scoring just twice in the Continentals' first six matches.
The Continentals grabbed the early lead in the eighth minute when Rylie Mutton '23 stole the ball away from Bowdoin (4-5-1, 1-4-1) in the middle of its defensive zone and sent a long pass to the right side of the penalty box for Alex Fontana '20. Fontana just kept the ball in play along the end line and fired a centering pass to the front of the goal area. Hyla Mosher '23 gained possession and passed back to Gambino who drove the bouncing ball into the back of the nylon 7:37 after the opening kickoff.
Gambino gave Hamilton a two-goal lead at the break off a corner kick to the left of Penny Rocchio (7 saves). Caroline Dawson '23 made a short pass to Kristin Hughes '20 who hurled a low cross to the hashmark and Gambino headed the ball over Rocchio and underneath the crossbar in the 43rd minute.
Mosher scored her seventh goal of the season with help from Dawson in the 57th minute and Mutton found Frankie Lilly '23 in the 69th minute.
Rachel Pike '21 made all three of her saves in the second half. Isabel Ball replaced Rocchio at the start of the second half and stopped four shots.
Hamilton returns to Love Field for a non-conference game against Hartwick College on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m.
