Mosher '23 heads in game-winning overtime goal at Trinity

Box Score

Hamilton College's Hyla Mosher '23 scored her eighth goal of the season 58 seconds into the second sudden-victory overtime period and lifted the Continentals to a 1-0 NESCAC win against the Trinity College Bantams in Hartford, Conn., on Saturday.

The Continentals were rewarded a free kick 20 yards out near the top-left corner of Trinity's penalty box. Rylie Mutton '23 took the kick and sailed a perfect ball to the backside of the goal area where Mosher elevated over the competition and headed in the game-winning goal. Mosher is in a four-way tie for second in the NESCAC with eight goals, just behind teammate Cat Gambino '21 who has scored nine. Mosher also ranks third in the conference with 19 points and Gambino is tied with Tufts' Liz Reed for first with 20.

Nationally ranked No. 13 Tufts University arrives in Clinton on Sunday, Oct. 13 for an 11 a.m. NESCAC game on Love Field. Hamilton is ranked eighth in the New England Region by the United Soccer Coaches and the Jumbos are third.

Hamilton improves its overall record to 8-2-1 and 4-2-1 in conference play. The Continentals have recorded four straight shutout victories and remain unbeaten in their last seven contests.

The Buff and Blue dominated throughout, racking up a 19-4 shot advantage. Rachel Pike '21 made three saves for the shutout.

Trinity (3-6-1, 2-4-0 NESCAC) nearly broke the stalemate off a corner kick in the 31st minute when Whitney Hoban headed the ball towards the back-side post but Hamilton's Kristin Hughes '20 blocked the ball from crossing the goal line.

Hamilton's best chance in the first half came off the foot of Caroline Dawson '23 in the 29th minute. Mosher crossed the ball out of the right corner to Olivia Rodrigues '21 at the top of the box. Rodriguez passed over to Dawson on the left side and Dawson's shot tipped off Jennifer Stuart's (12 saves) fingers, skidded across the top of the crossbar and rolled out of bounds.

The Continentals nearly scored again in the second half when Kayleigh Harris '20 teed up a shot from outside the box that bounced off the left post in the 60th minute and hit Stuart in the back. The ball then bounced to the left side of the box where Mosher crossed the ball to the back post for Dawson. Dawson blasted a shot to the lower-left corner but Stuart made a diving save.

Just five minutes later, Hamilton's potential goal celebration was overturned due to an offside call. Gambino took the free kick from just outside the box and sent a head-high ball for Mosher. Mosher tipped the ball to the ground and Alex Fontana '20 buried a shot into the back of the open net.
