Box Score Wesleyan University scored four unanswered goals and the Cardinals posted a 4-2 win over the Hamilton College Continentals in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon.
Wesleyan (10-0-2 NESCAC) remains undefeated in conference play and improves to 12-4-2 overall.
Hamilton (8-8-2, 6-4-2 NESCAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two goals by Nick Ursitti '20 in the first period.
Nick Rutigliano '21 won the battle along the boards at the red line and fed the puck up to Joey Moore '22. Tim Sestak (24 saves) stopped the initial shot by Moore but Ursitti cruised through the slot and buried the rebound at 10:17.
Late in the opening period Josh Labonte '21 knocked the puck away from a Cardinal and it rolled up the boards to Moore surging into the offensive zone. Moore turned the corner towards the net and delivered a drop pass to Ursitti who sniped the puck into the opposite upper-right corner of the goal with 37 seconds left.
The Cardinals' cut their deficit in half with a power-play goal 55 seconds into the second period and tied the score just 23 seconds later. Spencer Fox was along the hash mark to the left of Anthony Tirabassi '20 (24 saves) and passed to Walker Harris at the top of the circle for a one-timer inside the near post. Tyler Wyatt tied the score at 2-2 after he skated out of the right corner and backhanded the puck over Tirabassi's left shoulder.
Harris scored his second of the game and 13th of the season at 12:58 while he was helping Wesleyan kill a penalty, and the Cardinals held a 3-2 edge after two periods.
Hamilton outshot the visitors 12-5 in the third period, but Wesleyan held the 28-26 edge for the game.
Wesleyan's Fox picked up his third assist after he found Tyler Levine for an insurance goal with 1:29 left in the third. Fox passed the puck out of the left corner to Levine in the high slot and Levine wristed the puck top-shelf.
The Continentals visit Colby College on Friday, Feb. 1 for a NESCAC game at 7 p.m.
