No. 6 men's basketball dominates Conn. College on the road

Nationally ranked No. 6 Hamilton College held the Connecticut College Camels to their lowest point total this season as the Continentals posted a 91-46 NESCAC victory at Conn. College's Luce Field House on Saturday afternoon.

The Continentals (14-1, 2-1 NESCAC) shot 49.3 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from 3-point range, had a 34-24 edge in points in the paint, and boasted 24 points off 23 Camel turnovers.

Hamilton's Kena Gilmour '20 shot 10 of 14 from the floor with three 3-pointers as he led all scorers with 25 points. Mark Lutz '20 shot a perfect 4 of 4 from the field with three 3-pointers for 11 points in 13 minutes off the bench. Peter Hoffmann '19 dropped in 15 points, Tim Doyle '19 had a game-high five assists and Nick Osarenren '22 totaled eight points, six rebounds and four steals.

Jack Zimmerman led Conn. College (5-10, 0-4) with 12 points and added four rebounds. David Labossiere totaled 11 points and four boards, and Dan Draffan added seven points and nine rebounds.

The Camels held a slim lead twice at 2-0 and 4-2 before Hamilton took the lead for good on a deep-range jumper by Andrew Groll '19 (6 points, 7 rebounds) that sparked 12 unanswered points by the Buff and Blue. A jumper by Gilmour at 17:05 made the score 7-4 and he followed with a layup at 16:30. Hoffmann banked in a layup at 16:09 and the streak ended with a three by Gilmour at 15:23 to make the score 14-4.

Less than two minutes later, Gilmour hit another downtown basket and kicked off an 11-0 run. Sayo Denloye '20 ended the run with a 3-pointer at 10:55 to extend Hamilton's lead to 14 at 24-10. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Zimmerman and Ben Bagnoli got the Camels back within nine at 25-16 with 8:16 remaining in the opening half. The Continentals remained unfazed as they put together a 17-4 surge to gain a 42-20 advantage with 1:31 left. Labossiere closed the half with five straight points as Conn. College cut Hamilton's lead to 17.

Lutz scored all of his points in the second half as he led a Hamilton squad that shot 55.6 percent (5 of 9) from 3-point range during the final 20 minutes. Michael Grassey '19 hit the first 3-pointer of the half at 16:47 to make the score 50-28. Lutz's three at 10:28 put Hamilton up by 30 at 65-35. Osarenren added a three at 7:57 as part of a 9-0 run, and Hoffmann's thunderous slam dunk at 7:28 made it 75-38. Lutz doubled Hamilton's lead again at 80-40 at 6:49 when he drilled his second three and immediately followed with a layup at 6:23. Lutz's third 3-pointer extended the lead to 85-40 with five minutes remaining. Hamilton finished the final three minutes by going 5-for-6 at the free-throw line.

The Continentals travel to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, Jan. 16 for a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
