Men's Ice Hockey

Men's hockey dominates on the road; career night for Morrison '20

Box Score

Defenseman Bennett Morrison '20 served up a personal-best three assists, Jason Brochu '19 scored twice, and the Hamilton College Continentals posted a 5-1 non-conference victory at SUNY Canton on Saturday night.

Hamilton (3-1-0 overall) enjoyed a 35-20 shot advantage over Canton (3-5-1). Anthony Tirabassi '20 made 19 stops for the Continentals.

Rory Gagnon '19 scored the first of the night 5:03 into the contest. Jon Beniers '21 won the puck along the boards and passed back to Morrison on the point. Morrison fired a slap shot towards the goal and Gagnon tipped the puck into the back of the nylon.

Morrison grabbed his second assist of the game during the final minute of the first. Canton attempted to clear the puck out of its own zone but the heads up play by Morrison intercepted the puck at the blue line. Morrison's initial shot was turned away by Austin Washkurak (10 saves) but Brochu was in the slot for a one-timer into the net with just 21 seconds left on the clock.

The Continentals extended their lead to 4-0 during the second period. Sterling Bray '20 scored his first of the season at 1:41 with help from Gagnon and Sean Allen '21, and Brochu notched his second of the night at the 9:10 mark with Nick Ursitti '20 and Morrison picking up the assists.

Canton's Michael Cerasuolo took over the goaltending duties for Washkurak following Hamilton's third goal and finished the game with 20 saves.

William Ma put Canton on the scoreboard 30 seconds into the third with his first collegiate goal. Sean Shepard broke the puck out of Canton's zone and passed up to Jeffrey Gauld for a two-on-two. Gauld centered a pass to Ma and he placed a perfect shot inside the back post.

Allen closed the scoring with his first goal of the season at 18:39. Andrew Court '22 passed out of the right corner to Nick Rutigliano '21 on the blue line, Rutigliano passed over to Allen on the opposite point and he pounded a slap shot through traffic and past Cerasuolo.

Hamilton (1-0 NESCAC) returns to NESCAC action against Trinity College on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Hartford, Conn. The Bantams are 2-0 in conference play this season, posting back-to-back shutouts against Tufts University and Connecticut College.
