Ursitti '20 completes Hamilton's comeback victory in overtime

Box Score

Nick Ursitti '20 scored 23 seconds into the sudden-victory overtime period and lifted the Hamilton College Continentals to a 3-2 comeback win over the Wilkes University Colonels in non-conference men's hockey action at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Tuesday evening.

Wilkes (4-3 overall) controlled the opening overtime faceoff but Jordi Jefferson '22 quickly stole the puck away and raced into the offensive zone. Sean Allen '21 blasted a slap shot from the point and Wilkes cleared the rebound to the corner before Ursitti could knock in the rebound. Jason Brochu '19 then denied the clear attempt by the Colonels along the boards and passed through two defenders to Ursitti who backhanded the game-winner into the top shelf of the net.

Hamilton (2-1), held scoreless for more than 43 minutes, connected with back-to-back power-play goals at 3:17 and 6:16 in the third period. With two Colonels sitting in the penalty box, Hamilton's Sterling Bray '20 and Jefferson dug the puck out of the corner and passed to Jason Brochu '19 behind the net. Brochu cruised to the front of the net and wristed the puck inside the near post to tie the score at 1-1. Less than two minutes later, Bennett Morrison '20 gave Hamilton the lead. Jon Beniers '21 dumped the puck into Wilkes' zone for Ursitti racing towards the corner. Ursitti gathered the puck, passed back to Morrison at the faceoff dot and he snapped the puck past Brandon Gordon (32 saves).

The Colonels scored just 52 seconds into the contest for a quick one-goal lead. Following a Hamilton icing, Wade Novack won the faceoff to the right of Pete Negron '21 (29 saves) and dropped the puck back to Tyler Barrow at the top of the circle. Barrow blasted a shot that trickled through Negron's pads. Barrow scored his second of the game at 7:37 in the third period to even the score at 2-2. Chris Dalfarra sent a pass ahead to Novak racing out of the Colonels' end. Novack skated along the boards, fired a shot on goal and Barrow tucked away the rebound.

Hamilton returns to action after Thanksgiving with a non-conference game against SUNY Canton on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. in Canton, N.Y.
