Women's squash opens with win over Connecticut College

The Hamilton College Continentals opened the 2018-19 season by splitting their two NESCAC weekend matches at Hamilton's Little Squash Center on Nov. 17 and 18.

The Continentals -- No. 22 in the preseason rankings -- claimed a 9-0 win against No. 27 Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon and dropped a 7-2 decision against No. 13 Williams College on Sunday afternoon.

Hamilton picked up wins at all nine positions in its season opener, highlighted by two hard-fought matches from Megan Grip '19 and Sydney Soloway '22.

Caitlin Stern '21 and Charlotte Zonis '19 defeated their Camel opponents in three games apiece at the first and second positions, respectively. Grip outlasted her counterpart at the third spot in four games. After dropping the second game 10-12, she came back to claim the win with convincing scores of 11-5 and 11-4 in the last two games.

Liesl Guenther '21 defeated her opponent in three close games at the fourth position. Soloway dropped her first game 8-11 at the fifth position but won the next three and claimed her first collegiate win. Eleanor Struthers '22 and Lindsay Jadow '19 defeated their opponents in three games at the sixth and seventh positions, respectively.

Maddie Sakheim '22 went undefeated on the weekend at the eighth position, defeating both of her opponents for her first two collegiate wins. Jean Beecher '19 downed her Camels opponent in three games at the ninth position and claimed another win against Williams as the Ephs did not have a ninth player.

After Thanksgiving break, the Continentals will host Mount Holyoke College at noon and St. Lawrence University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2.
