Hamilton blanks Bowdoin in final regular season home game

Box Score

The Continentals scored twice in the first half and Hamilton College posted a 2-0 NESCAC victory over the Bowdoin College Polar Bears at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday.

The shutout victory is Hamilton's third straight and its fifth of the season. Rachel Pike '21 made four saves in the first half and Caity Smith '22 had five in the second stanza.

Rookie goalkeeper Penny Rocchio tallied nine saves for Bowdoin (5-5-2, 1-5-1 NESCAC) in her first career start.

The Continentals (6-3-3, 4-3-2) quickly gained a 1-0 lead as Cat Gambino '21 netted her team-leading fifth goal of the year just 1:44 after the opening kickoff. Kayleigh Harris '20 crossed the ball from the left side to Alex Fontana '20 at the top of the box. Fontana dribbled around a defender and tapped the ball forward to Gambino for a shot inside the right post.

Fontana picked up her second assist of the game when Harris doubled the Continentals' lead in the 36th minute. Gambino worked the ball out of the right corner and passed back to Sydney Kim '21. Kim quickly sent a centering pass to Fontana cutting through defenders for an open shot on Rocchio. Rocchio made a great kick save but the rebound went right to Harris for a one-timer that hit off Rocchio's fingertips, smashed the bottom of the crossbar and crossed the goal line for the first goal of her Hamilton career.

Hamilton closes the regular season with three road games. First up, the Continentals take a short trip to Morrisville State College for a non-conference game on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m.
