Gagnon '19 scores his 11th of the season in men's hockey loss

Box Score

Nationally ranked No. 5/6 Trinity College scored one goal in each period for a 3-1 NESCAC win over the Hamilton College Continentals on Saturday night in Hartford, Conn.

Trinity (12-3-2, 9-1-1 NESCAC) opened the scoring 8:57 into the opening period. Mark Knowlton won a battle along the boards inside the Hamilton zone and passed to Connor Hegarty at the point for a slap shot. Anthony Tirabassi '20 made the initial stop, but the rebound was loose in the crease for Ryan Pfeffer to put away the goal.

Hamilton (10-6-1, 4-6-1) evened the score just over three minutes later. Bennett Morrison '20 quickly gathered the puck after Trinity dumped it into the Continentals' zone for a line change. Morrison passed to Sterling Bray '20 up the right side of the boards, and Bray found Rory Gagnon '19 cutting across the neutral zone. Gagnon switched directions as he entered the Trinity end and snapped a shot off the pipe and in for his team-leading 11th goal of the season.

Anthony Sabitsky had a breakaway attempt with less than 10 seconds left in the first period, but Tirabassi stood his ground with a kick save to maintain the 1-1 tie after the first 20 minutes.

Nick Ursitti '20 had a chance to give Hamilton the lead at the start of the second period when Tyler Bruneteau '18 delivered a circus alley-oop pass from the Hamilton zone to the far blue line. Ursitti blew past the defender for a 1-on-1 with Alex Morin (25 saves) but Morin came up with a leg save.

Dylan Healey scored the game-winner for Trinity at 15:32 in the second period. The Continentals turned the puck over in the slot and Healey wristed a shot inside the left post. The Bantams held their one-goal lead at 2-1 entering the third period when Hamilton's Tirabassi made 10 of his 26 saves. Tyler Whitney scored an empty-netter with 10 seconds remaining.

Hamilton visits Wesleyan University on Sunday for a 3 p.m. NESCAC game in Middletown, Conn.
