Box Score Eli Morris '18 scored the game-winning goal 41 seconds into the first overtime period and Hamilton College men's soccer defeated NESCAC opponent Wesleyan 2-1 at Love Field on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton (4-3-1 overall) improves to 2-3 in the conference while the Cardinals drop to 1-3 in the NESCAC and 5-3 overall.
Both teams battled through an even first half with Hamilton slightly outshooting Wesleyan 7-6, but Hamilton dominated the second half with a 19-3 shot advantage.
Wesleyan struck first as Alec Haas scored his first of the season, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead 12:38 into the second half.
Aidan Wood '20 tied the game off an indirect kick with 10:30 remaining in regulation. Matt Kastilahn '18 took the kick for Hamilton, feeding the ball to Eli Lichtman '18 in the right corner of the field. Litchtman then sailed the ball into the middle of the penalty area. Jeff Plump '20 headed the loose ball right to the foot of Wood for him to fire it into the upper right corner of the net from five yards out.
Luke Eckels '20 started the winning overtime drive when he stole the ball away from Haas outside Hamilton's penalty area. Eckels gave the ball to Sebastien Deguines '19 for him to move the ball upfield to Wood waiting in the center circle. Wood passed to Jefri Schmidt '20 and Schmidt gave the ball right back to Wood up the left side of the field. Wood then delivered a floating cross to the front of the net. Deguines gathered the free ball at the top of the 18-yard box and gave a perfect pass for Morris to drill a shot past the outstretched hands of Brian Harnett (16 saves) into the lower left corner of the net.
Hamilton will host No. 3 Tufts on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1:30 p.m. at Love Field.
