Rankin '20 smashes 10 kills in volleyball loss at Tufts

The Hamilton College volleyball team dropped a NESCAC match to the Tufts University Jumbos in three sets at Tufts' Cousens Gym on Friday night.

The Jumbos (9-4, 4-0 NESCAC) won the match by set scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-20.

Giuliana Rankin '20 led the Continentals with 10 kills and added three blocks. Nikki Matsuoka '21 picked up a team-high 15 digs and added seven kills. Meghan Wilkinson '19 and Christine Zizzi '18 had 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Wilkinson served a pair of aces and Emma Parkhurst '21 had 22 assists and nine digs.

Kelly Klimo had a match-high 16 digs for the Jumbos. Christina Nwankpa had nine kills and Heather Holz and Mackenzie Bright added eight apiece.

Hamilton got out to an 11-9 advantage in the first set before Tufts scored three unanswered to take the lead. The Continentals came back within one point at 22-21 but two Hamilton attack errors and a Tufts kill closed the set.

The Continentals had a 17-13 lead in the final set but the home team outscored Hamilton 6-1 to pull ahead 19-18. A kill by Hamilton's Margaret O'Brien '18 tied the score at 19-all but a Rachel Furash kill swayed the momentum back towards Tufts for the remainder of the set.  

The Continentals (6-4, 2-2) continue their NESCAC road trip at Bowdoin on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
