Box Score 2 The Hamilton College volleyball team traveled to Aurora, N.Y., on Saturday for a tri-match with Wells College and Morrisville State College. Hamilton fell to Morrisville 3-2 in the first match and then defeated host Wells in three straight sets.
The Mustangs (9-3 overall) outlasted Hamilton (5-3) through five sets. Morrisville won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-21. Hamilton came back in the third and fourth, 25-11 and 25-20, but the Mustangs took the fifth set 15-12 for the victory.
The fifth set was a battle to the end. Hamilton led 12-11 when a Kristen Florio kill tied the score and Morrisville scored three more unanswered points for the win.
Margaret O'Brien '18 paced the team with 12 kills, nine blocks, and .611 hitting percentage. Emma Parkhurst '21 was the primary setter for Hamilton, distributing 38 assists as well as chipping in 12 kills and four service aces. Christine Zizzi '18 led the defense with 20 digs and Kendall Searcy '20 and Meghan Wilkinson '19 added 15 each. Courtney Brown '18 and Dorothy Poucher '21 both had 10 kills.
The Continentals recovered in their second match of the day against Wells (9-5 overall), making quick work of the hosts by scores of 25-20, 25-9 and 25-15.
Poucher led the way with seven kills. O'Brien added four more blocks for a two-match total of 13. Parkhurst dished out 22 assists and Nikki Matsuoka '21 had 11 digs.
Hamilton is back on the court Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. when they visit the SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats for a non-conference match.
