Box Score Amherst College scored the first 14 points and went on to a 67-21 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Amherst's LeFrak Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton (10-12, 3-7 NESCAC) shot 13.3 percent from the field and committed 24 turnovers. Kate Bushell '17 pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds off the bench and Halie Serbent '19 and Mia Caterisano '19 scored four points apiece.
Amherst (24-0, 10-0) is ranked No. 1 in the D3hoops.com and Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III Top 25 polls. The Purple and White held a 47-33 advantage on the glass. Emma McCarthy posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards, Ali Doswell dropped in 11 points and Madeline Eck added 10. Meredith Doswell and Hannah Fox made four steals apiece.
Jaimie Renner started Amherst's 14-point spurt with a 3-pointer, Emma McCarthy made a layup and Ali Doswell converted an old-fashioned 3-point play. Meghan Sullivan followed with a trifecta and Ali Doswell canned three free throws after she was fouled while shooting from beyond the arc. Her free throws made it 14-0 with 5:58 left in the first quarter.
A layup and free throw by Lauren Getman '18 put the Continentals on the scoreboard 17 seconds later but the Purple and White responded with a 9-0 run and grabbed a 23-3 cushion. Amherst led 23-5 at the end of the quarter as Ali Doswell scored all 11 of her points in the first 10 minutes. The Purple and White held a 31-10 advantage at the break.
Amherst was 10 of 15 shooting from the floor and exploded for 26 points in the third quarter. The Purple and White opened the second half with 23 straight points for a 54-10 lead and Amherst was up 57-13 after three. Hamilton was a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter, and Amherst's Natalie Nardella scored seven points in the last 10 minutes.
