Chapman '19 scores but men's soccer falls short at Williams

Box Score

Bobby Chapman '19 scored his third goal in the last two games but the Hamilton College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 NESCAC game to Williams College at Cole Field in Williamstown, Mass., on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ephs (8-1-4, 3-1-4 NESCAC) outshot the Continentals 10-4 en route to building a two-goal lead in the first half.

Mark Sisco-Tolomeo split the Hamilton defenders and placed the ball inside the left corner of the net with 11:30 left in the first half. Two minutes later the ball took a bad bounce in an attempt to pass back to Continental goalkeeper Linds Cadwell '20 (four saves) and Eric Hirsch was able to get off a shot inside the left post.

Hamilton (6-5-2, 3-5-1) had two quality chances in the first half during the 18th and 30th minutes.

Quinn O'Malley '18 beat his defender on the left side of the 18-yard box and fired a cross attempt to the back post but Bobby Schneiderman made a leaping grab at the goal line while Chapman waited at his feet for the rebound. Twelve minutes later Williams was whistled for a handball in their corner of the field. Killian Clancy '18 took the free kick for Hamilton and curled the ball toward the upper-back corner of the goal but Schneiderman was able to deflect the shot out of play.

Hamilton cut the lead in half during the 59th minute. Greg Milnarik '19 fed the ball to Aidan Wood '20 who outran a Williams defender up the left side of the field. Wood delivered a low pass to the front of the goal and Chapman redirected the ball into the right side of the net.

Wood had a chance to tie the score six minutes later. Chapman won a 50/50 ball and passed to Wood between two defenders. Wood found himself one-on-one with Schneiderman but the Williams goalkeeper made his third and final save of the game.

Williams finished the game with a 13-7 shot advantage while both teams had four corner kicks.

The Continentals return to Love Field on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m. for their final NESCAC game of the regular season against Colby College (6-4-2, 3-3-2).
