Box Score Connecticut College scored the first nine points and led the entire way in the Camels' 70-53 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Connecticut College's Luce Field House on Friday night.
Lauren Getman '18 paced Hamilton (5-5, 0-1 NESCAC) with 11 points. Carly O'Hern '20 chipped in 10 points and three assists off the bench, and fellow reserve Marie Steiner '20 contributed 10 points and two steals. Kendall Rallins '19 led all players with a season-high eight rebounds.
The Continentals made 5 of 12 shots from beyond the arc and are third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 34 percent. Hamilton shot 34.6 percent overall from the field against the Camels.
Mairead Hynes led Connecticut Coll. with 17 points and Payton Ouimette dropped in 14. Samantha Ashton scored eight points and handed out six assists, and Liz Malman dished out five more. The Camels shot 50.9 percent and held a 34-12 advantage in points in the paint.
Connecticut Coll. (10-2, 1-0), which won its fourth straight game, grabbed an early 9-0 lead on layups by Hynes and Ashton and five points by Ouimette. Halie Serbent '19 put the Continentals on the scoreboard with a jumper nearly five minutes into the first quarter. Getman made the second of two free throws and pulled Hamilton within seven points at 14-7 with 1:10 left. Ouimette finished the quarter with eight points and her team led 19-7 after one.
The Camels proceeded to put the game away with a 21-2 run that gave Connecticut Coll. its largest lead of the night of 26 points at 35-9. Ouimette capped the spurt with a pair of layups. The Camels held a 26-point advantage on three occasions, the last of which was 39-13 after a Hynes basket with 4:29 remaining in the second quarter. Connecticut Coll. was 9 of 13 from the floor during the quarter.
The Continentals didn't get closer than 13 points the rest of the night. Getman scored six points in the third quarter when Hamilton made all nine of its free throw attempts.
The Continentals travel to Wesleyan for another NESCAC game on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m.
