Continentals stay undefeated at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House

Box Score

Hamilton College's Peter Hoffmann '19 poured in 20 points in just 19 minutes and the Continentals breezed to a 97-46 non-conference win against the Keystone College Giants at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Tuesday night.

The Continentals (14-5 overall) have won all seven games they've played at home this season. Hamilton won its third straight against the Giants and the Continentals lead the all-time series, 3-2.

Hamilton scored more than 90 points for the eighth time this season and it leads the NESCAC with 88.9 points per game. The Continentals shot 50.6 percent from the floor including 14 of 30 (46.7 percent) from 3-point range. Hamilton scored 28 points off turnovers and recorded 44 points in the paint. The Continentals held a commanding 51-31 advantage on the boards.

Hoffmann scored at least 20 points for the eighth time this season and leads the team with 16.6 per game. He was 9 of 14 shooting and blocked two shots.

Jack Dwyer '18 posted 14 points, six assists and three steals for Hamilton. Mark Lutz '20 drained four shots from beyond the arc and finished with a season-high 13 points. Matt Moros '18 canned three more 3-pointers and scored all of his career-best 11 points in the second half. Kena Gilmour '20 dropped in 10 points, Vincent Conn '20 handed out five assists and made four steals, and Andrew Groll '19 grabbed seven rebounds. Lutz, Moros, Gilmour and Conn all came off the bench.

Terrence Palmer paced Keystone (5-14) with 12 points and seven boards off the bench. ShaShawn Drayton chipped in nine points and Bryan Williams was credited with four steals. The Giants -- losers of six in a row -- committed 27 turnovers and shot 28.6 percent from the floor. Keystone was just 1 of 12 from long range.

The Giants scored the first four points but the Continentals responded with a 17-0 run and led by double digits the rest of the night. Hoffmann and Dwyer started the spurt with layups and Joe Pucci '18 put Hamilton ahead for good at 7-4 with a 3-pointer. Hoffmann scored the next six points including two on a thunderous dunk, and Dwyer capped the run with layups on back-to-back possessions for a 17-4 cushion with 12:26 left.

The Continentals took their first 20-point lead at 40-19 on a Michael Grassey '19 jumper with 2:04 remaining in the half. Hamilton went into the break with a 49-22 advantage. The Continentals went up by 30 for the first time early in the second half at 59-29 on an old-fashioned 3-point play by Dwyer. A layup by Gilmour put Hamilton ahead by 40 at 73-32 midway through the half and a Moros 3-pointer gave the Continentals a 50-point lead at 94-44 with less than three minutes to go.

Hamilton travels to Brunswick, Maine, for a NESCAC game against Bowdoin College on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
