Box Score Middlebury College shot 62 percent from the field and the Panthers posted a 115-82 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Middlebury's Pepin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The nationally ranked No. 22 Panthers (15-3, 4-2 NESCAC) eclipsed the 100-point mark for the third time in their last four games. Middlebury was 16 of 27 (59.3 percent) from beyond the arc and held a 42-27 advantage on the glass.
Hamilton (13-5, 3-3) had won its previous three games, including a 127-82 rout of Wells College on Wednesday night. The Continentals shot 44.8 percent from the floor including 8 of 25 from 3-point range.
Kena Gilmour '20 scored 19 points and made three steals in 26 minutes off the bench for Hamilton. Andrew Groll '19 chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds. Groll, who entered the day with just one career 3-pointer, was a perfect 3 of 3 from long range. Peter Hoffmann '19 added nine points.
Bryan Jones led six Panthers in double figures with 25 points. Jones made five 3-pointers and was credited with four steals. Matt St. Amour also drained five 3-pointers and ended up with 23 points to go with three steals. Jack Daly contributed 11 points and seven assists, and Jake Brown finished with 10 points and nine assists. Eric McCord and Adisa Majors dropped in 10 points apiece and Nick Tarantino pulled down eight boards.
Middlebury opened the game with an 11-0 run and led the whole way. Tarantino made a layup, St. Amour canned back-to-back shots from long range and Daly capped the spurt with another 3-pointer. The Continentals didn't get closer than six points the rest of the day.
The Panthers took their first 20-point lead at 39-19 on a Perry DeLorenzo layup with 6:48 left and they led 55-35 at the break. Brown scored all 10 of his points in the first half while Hamilton was 1 of 14 from 3-point range.
Middlebury led by at least 18 points in the second half and went up by 31 on a Matt Folger dunk with 9:18 remaining. The Panthers took their largest lead of 37 points at 99-62 on a St. Amour trifecta with 5:25 to go. Middlebury was 22 of 30 (73.3 percent) from the field in the second half. Hamilton shot 52.9 percent from the floor including 7 of 11 from long range during the last 20 minutes.
The Continentals host Keystone College for a non-conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m.
