Box Score Hamilton College's Giuliana Rankin '20 hammered a season-high 22 kills and the Continentals rallied for a five set NESCAC victory against the Colby College Mules at Colby's Wadsworth Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton (10-10, 3-7 NESCAC) dug deep to win its season finale after falling behind two sets-to-one. The set scores were 25-12, 16-25, 19-25, 25-18 and 19-17.
The Mules (5-24, 0-10) ended their season on a seven-match losing streak. Colby led 15-14 in the deciding fifth set but couldn't close out the Continentals.
Rankin's 22 kills is the most by a Hamilton player since Erin Donahue '18 racked up 23 against SUNY Cortland on Sept. 18, 2015. Rankin's hitting percentage was .452 (22-3-42). Donahue and Jessica Weston '17 chipped in nine kills apiece.
Kyndal Burdin '18 posted a career-best 55 assists and registered 10 digs and four service aces. Burdin is now in third place on the program's all-time list with 1,702 assists.
Christine Zizzi '18 led the defense with 23 digs, Meghan Wilkinson '19 added a season-high 16 and Kendall Searcy '20 finished with 11. Weston and Margaret O'Brien '18 contributed three blocks apiece.
Both teams played at a high level in the fifth set and each had match points before Hamilton finally scored two in a row. The Continentals won a long rally to go up 16-15, but Elizabeth Noyes had a winner for the Mules to tie the score. Rankin hit a smash off a Colby blocker to make it 17-16 before Paige Hanssen followed with a kill for the Mules to knot the score at 17-17. Hamilton had a long shot hit the back line for the 18th point and Colby netted a return to seal the match for the Continentals.
Hanssen finished with 17 kills and five aces for the Mules. Emily Moslener passed out 28 assists and Noyes added 16 digs.
