Box Score The Hamilton College men's soccer team wrapped up its regular season Wednesday at Withiam Field, beating the visiting SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats 2-0. The Continentals, who'll host Connecticut College Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Championship, finished the regular season with an 8-6-1 record.
The Continentals outshot the Wildcats 34-4 but were kept off the scoreboard for 70 minutes before scoring twice in a 92-second span.
Luke Eckels '20 and Alex Cadet '17 both scored their second goal of the season and the Continentals recorded their sixth shutout of the year.
Before breaking through in the 71st minute, the Continentals had taken 24 shots (two had hit the post) and had a goal disallowed because of an offsides call while the Wildcats were credited with 11 saves.
A long scrum following a corner kick led to the game's first goal, which Eckels sent to the left of Wildcat goalkeeper Mingoro Fanny.
Just 1:32 later the Continentals doubled their lead when Cadet took advantage of a pass from Jefri Schmidt '20. Schmidt carried the ball to the middle of the box then sent a pass to Cadet outside the left post; the pass drew Fanny to that post and Cadet put his shot into the vacated middle of the net.
Fanny finished with 12 saves. Hamilton's shutout was shared by Jake Hamill '17 and Linds Cadwell '20. Hamill made the first start of his career and recorded a pair of saves while playing the first 54 minutes. Cadwell was credited with the win; he's now 2-1-0 with a 0.37 goals against average.
The Wildcats, who fell to 7-11-0, hadn't allowed a goal in their last four games.
