Dale '20 nets 1st goal in 1-0 women's soccer win at Oswego

Box Score

Hamilton College's Maddie Dale '20 scored her first collegiate goal and the Continentals posted a 1-0 non-conference win against the SUNY Oswego Lakers at Laker Soccer Field on a chilly Tuesday afternoon.

Hamilton (5-7-3 overall) extended its win streak to 16 games in the all-time series against Oswego. Rachel Cooley '18 made three saves -- all in the second half -- for her third shutout this year and the sixth of her career. The Continentals have blanked six opponents this year and haven't allowed a goal in more than 223 minutes.

Hamilton will go into the postseason on a three-game unbeaten streak with two wins and a tie. The Continentals are the eighth seed in the 2016 NESCAC Women's Soccer Championship and will play the top seed Williams College in the quarterfinals in Williamstown, Mass., on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 12:30 p.m.

The Lakers (7-5-4) came into the day with a four-game unbeaten streak. Melissa Siegfried made both of her saves in the first half.

Hamilton scored the lone goal of the afternoon on its second corner kick. Jessie Murray '19 took the corner and the ball went to Dale, who took a shot that grazed the crossbar on its way into the back of the net. Murray recorded her third assist and fifth point this year.

Oswego had their chances. In the 25th minute, a shot by Leslie Goldman hit the crossbar. Cooley made Dale's goal stand up as she made a stop in the 81st minute and again with just over a minute remaining.

The Continentals held an 11-7 shot advantage and took five corner kicks to the Lakers' one.
