Volleyball opens tournament with big win

The Hamilton College volleyball team opened two days of competition at the Volleyball Hall of Fame Induction Tournament Friday in Northampton, Mass. The Continentals snapped a five-match losing streak with a 3-1 win against the hosts Smith College.

Hamilton (7-9 overall) dropped the first set 25-23 then bounced back to sweep the next three (25-15, 25-12, 25-10). 

The Continentals were led by Erin Donahue '18, who landed 15 kills. Courtney Brown '18 added nine. Meghan Wilkinson '19 exploded for 45 assists while contributing seven digs and a pair of service aces.

Giuliana Rankin '20 finished with eight kills while Jessica Weston '17 and Margaret O'Brien '18 collected seven each.

Kendall Searcy '20 posted a team-best 17 digs. Missy Mouritsen '20 and Christine Zizzi '18 recorded nine apiece, and Mouritsen served three aces.

O'Brien's 10 blocks raise her career total to 234; that figure ranks fifth on the program's all-time list.

Maca Rojas (21 assists) and Julie Voorhes (18 digs) led the way for Smith (3-19).

Hamilton faces Bridgewater State at 10 a.m. and takes on Emmanuel at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
