Box Score The Hamilton College volleyball team opened a NESCAC weekend Friday night against Williams. The visiting Ephs won in four sets. Williams won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-22, then – after the Continentals won the third set 31-29 – secured the match with a 25-17 win.
Hamilton is now 6-7 on the season overall and 2-5 in NESCAC play. Williams, winners of six straight matches, is 10-7 with a 5-2 NESCAC mark.
Giuliana Rankin '20 led Hamilton with 13 kills and Courtney Brown '18 added 11. Rankin's four blocks and four digs were both one away from her career highs. Kyndal Burdin '18 finished with 43 assists – her highest total ever for a four-set match – along with seven digs and three blocks. Christine Zizzi '18 led Hamilton with 21 digs. Kendall Searcy '20 matched her career high with 16 digs and Erin Donahue '18 contributed 13. Donahue's total was one short of her personal best. Margaret O'Brien '18 led the Continentals with five blocks and Jessica Weston '17 recorded four.
Tori Jasuta led all players with 21 kills and added 22 digs. Erin Denham had 10 kills for Williams, who fought back from a 7-2 deficit in the opening set. The Ephs scored the first five points of the second set and never trailed before the back-and-forth third set. Hamilton led 5-2 and 15-10 before the visitors pulled even at 20-all. The Continentals took a 24-22 lead before the Ephs fought off set point for the first of three times (Hamilton staved off elimination three times as well).
Alex Newton collected 54 assists and Caitie Benell notched 31 digs. Daiana Takashima contributed 15 digs.
The Continentals face more NESCAC opposition Saturday, taking on Amherst at 2 p.m.
