Missy Mariano



Missy Mariano was named head coach of the Hamilton College field hockey program in July 2017. In 2024 the Continentals were ranked as high as 22nd in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Top 25 poll, and they played in the NESCAC championship quarterfinals. Mariano coached two all-NESCAC team selections, as well as all-region and all-American midfielder Lilly Truchon ’26. A dozen student-athletes made the NFHCA National Academic Squad and the Continentals received a National Academic Team Award for the seventh time in eight years under Mariano.

Hamilton Head Coach (2017-present)

  • 61 wins in seven seasons, including 10 victories in 2018 and 2021
  • Guided Hamilton to six postseason appearances highlighted by a trip to the 2019 NESCAC semifinals
  • Mentored three all-America team selections and 13 all-region and 15 all-NESCAC team honorees
  • In 2023 ranked as high as 15th in the coaches poll
  • Ranked as high as 14th and had two players in the NFHCA Division III Senior Game in 2022
  • In 2021 ranked as high as 15th in the coaches poll
  • Ranked as high as 18th in 2019 and won at nationally ranked No. 4 Bowdoin in a NESCAC championship quarterfinal
  • In 2018 the Continentals hosted a conference championship quarterfinal for the third year in a row and finished the year ranked 18th in the final coaches poll
  • Mariano's squad climbed as high as No. 8 in the coaches poll in mid-September 2017 -- the highest ranking in program history

 
Franklin and Marshall Head Coach (2008-16)

  • Teams boasted a winning record in each of her last eight years, and made five NCAA championship appearances in the last six seasons
  • Left as the winningest coach in program history with a record of 129-46 (.737)
  • Six players received a total of 10 all-America honors and the Diplomats collected 21 all-region selections
  • Earned at least a share of five Centennial Conference regular season crowns and captured the tournament title in 2012
  • Conference coach of the year in 2011 and 2015, coached a conference rookie of the year and two players of the year, and added 33 all-conference honors
  • In 2016 directed the Diplomats to a record of 16-5, a share of the conference regular season title and a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals
  • In 2014 established team records for most goals, shutouts and wins (tie) in a season
  • The 2012 and 2014 squads recorded 18 victories apiece
  • Franklin & Marshall reached No. 1 in the NFHCA poll for the first time in program history in 2013
  • Named the 2011 NFHCA Division III South Region Coach of the Year
  • Served as the senior woman administrator

 
William Smith College Assistant Coach (2004-07)

  • Assisted the Herons as they put together a record of 69-16 and made four NCAA championship appearances
  • Helped guide the team to the national semifinals in 2004 and the quarterfinals in 2005 and 2006
  • Program garnered 11 all-America selections, 19 all-region honors and three Liberty League player of the year awards
  • William Smith won four league titles and Mariano was part of three league coaching staff of the year awards

 
Student-Athlete at Middlebury

  • Known as Missy Krempa, she was a four-year starter at midfield and finished her career with 21 goals and 48 points
  • In 2003 the team captain helped lead the Panthers to a 19-1 record, a NESCAC championship and the NCAA final
  • Was a first team all-American, first team all-NESCAC and selected for the NCAA all-tournament team
  • On the all-region first team twice and earned a spot on the 2003 NFHCA National Academic Squad
  • Chosen by her teammates to receive the Unsung Hero Award in 2002 and the Panther Contribution Award in 2003
  • Given the 2004 Deborah Parton Memorial Award for the Middlebury female athlete who exemplifies spirit and dedication
  • Graduated cum laude with a degree in history and psychology
